Description
I'm sure you're already familiar with the iconic DeLorean DMC-12, made famous by Back to the Future. Manufactured in Northern Ireland from 1980–1982 and sold as 1981–1983 models, DeLoreans are now among the most sought-after collector automobiles worldwide. This exceptional 1983 DeLorean, with just 1,543 original miles, is essentially a brand-new, museum-quality example. A comparable DeLorean with 1,410 miles is currently listed on Hemmings for $134,000. Recent sales support the rising market: a 1981 DeLorean with 1,500 miles sold for $111,000 (9/6/24, BAT), a 1982 with 3,400 miles sold for $113,000 (10/24/24, BAT), and a 1983 with just 93 miles commanded $151,099 (10/9/24, BAT). According to Hagerty (1/9/2025), DeLoreans were among the biggest winners of 2024, with an average value increase of 11%.
This time capsule has been part of my private collection for the past five years, meticulously stored in a climate-controlled garage. It features the preferred 5-speed manual transmission, black leather interior, and all-original equipment. Earlier 1981–1982 models had quality control and electrical issues, which were fully addressed by the 1983 production year. After careful reawakening from 28 years of storage, the car received minimal but important maintenance using DeLorean-sourced parts: a new battery, fuel tank cleaning, new fuel pump and filter assembly, six new fuel injectors, black steel-braided fuel lines (originals included), and a DMC-rebuilt Bosch fuel distributor. New spark plugs, distributor, trunk support struts, lambda sensor, oil change, cooling system flush, and brake system rebuild were also performed. All original components are included.
Originally sold new on July 11, 1984, to an older couple in Sandy, Utah, the DeLorean was used sparingly, always garaged, and maintained with extreme care until December 1991. They kept the car for 35 years before I acquired it in January 2020. Powered by its original 2.85-liter fuel-injected V6 engine, this DeLorean is mechanically excellent, with its stainless-steel body guaranteed never to rust. The brushed stainless exterior, factory turbine wheels, and OEM Goodyear NCT-HR60 tires are in outstanding condition. Inside, the black leather seats, dash, gauges, light gray carpeting, original AM/FM cassette, floor mats, and air conditioning look virtually new. The odometer reads just 1,543 miles — 1,528 by the original owners and only 15 miles driven by me in the past five years.
The pristine trunk includes original carpeting, tool kit, perfect spare wheel and tire, jack, extra plastic-wrapped floor mats, DMC fitted car cover, and a mint-condition DMC bug/stone guard. Documentation from new includes the window sticker, purchase documents, finance papers, registration history, original plates, manufacturer’s literature, service books, DeLorean magazines, and a clean California title in my name. Simply put, this is one of the finest preserved, fully documented, original-survivor 1983 DeLoreans in existence — an ideal centerpiece for any enthusiast’s collection or automotive museum.
