1955 Austin-Healey 100
Description
This exceptional 1955 Austin-Healey 100 BN2 Roadster is a rare, collector-grade example of Gerry Coker’s iconic design—aptly described as “Speed at Rest.” Built on September 20, 1955, and dispatched to the U.S. on October 19, this car left the factory finished in Carmine Red over a Black leather interior and has undergone a 10-year, nut-and-bolt rotisserie restoration (2004–2014) to concours-level standards. Every step of this restoration was a labor of love, with no expense spared and every effort made to retain originality. It retains its matching numbers engine, gearbox, and components, verified by the British Motor Industry Heritage Trust certificate. Even the body panels, cockpit moldings, and mechanical stampings match factory specs, while many original parts were either painstakingly rebuilt or replaced with rare NOS items, including the trafficator assembly, badge, brake reservoir, and wiper blades.
The restoration work—performed by Coachwerks Restoration in Victoria, BC—included hot-dipping the body and refinishing it in factory-correct Carmine Red. The result is flawless, with mirror-like paint, pristine bodywork, and show-quality brightwork. The car rides on 15" painted wire wheels with Dunlop Road Speed 5.90x15 tires and includes a properly mounted matching spare. Features like the iconic tilting windshield and black soft top complete its classic exterior.
Inside, the cabin transports you back in time with black leather bucket seats piped in red, a banjo-style steering wheel, Smiths gauges, chrome accents, and correct black carpeting. Everything appears in perfect working order, and the car drives as beautifully as it looks. The original, rebuilt 2.7L inline-four engine with dual SU carburetors produces 90 hp and 144 lb-ft of torque, paired with a fully rebuilt 4-speed manual gearbox with overdrive (functional in 3rd and 4th gear) by Healey specialist Roy Moore. The car starts effortlessly, idles smoothly, and is a joy to drive whether around town or on the open highway.
This Roadster is not only ready for national-level concours awards, but is also fully sorted for spirited weekend drives. It has been meticulously preserved and stored indoors among other rare European collectibles since restoration. Included in the sale are the original owner’s manual, service manual, side curtains, tonneau cover, original tool roll with hammer, and extensive documentation including restoration receipts, photos, letters, and the British Heritage Certificate.
If you’ve been searching for an investment-grade Austin-Healey that combines provenance, precision restoration, and timeless style, this 1955 Austin-Healey 100 BN2 Roadster is a standout example that would be difficult to match.
